speaker shorting/borroming out?

Recommended Posts

I have Ks 60.2s on a Oxygen Audio F150 at 4 ohms. The gain is almost half way which would be just under 4v. The highpass is on and set to around 1000hz and no bass boost. Whenever i play White clouds by decaf, not even on the low note, but the high note the speaker starts either crackling really loud/bottoming out/or almost sounds like it is shorting out (haven't let it happen for longer than 1/2 second thats why i am unclear about what it truly sounds like). It only happens in the right door, not the left. any ideas? (i already think im going to take the door panel off again) The only thing is i dont know if it is the tweeter or the mid. (i am using the crossover they came with also.

ok, well i took the door panel off. The mid is flexing like a mo fo for some reason, and when i turn the hpf off, it doubles the excursion on the mid. So i think it was bottoming out. It was playing every bass note from white clouds with authority which makes me wonder if the filter is doing anything.

Is it that the new amp i got just overpowers them too much? because the tweeter doesnt get extremely loud but the mid is going nuts. is there a filter i could use to just alter the components signal and not mess with the sub amps?

edit: or something to control the cone movement where it has to work harder to excurt as much.

You could check the crossovers by just hooking up the claimed bottoming out speaker up to the crossover in the other door panel, and if it does the same thing then you have narrowed it down to the speaker.

If it does NOT do the same thing, then you can pretty much say its the crossover.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU......

well... shit. looks like im going to find some new components soon... or maybe they sell just kicker crossovers but i doubt it. All i know is when i heard it both times, my immediate reaction was turn it down and i was looking at my right door. So i dont think me left one does it, but i guess i gotta take that one off too.

Just try diff configurations, first would be figure out if both sides are doing it.. If both are doing it, then thats a different story, if only one side is doing it, then do as stated before and take the "broken" speaker, and hook it up to the working sides crossover. If the "broken" speaker works fine on the other side, then its your crossover, if the "broken" speaker does the same thing on the other cross over, then its the speaker. But if both sides do this bottoming out thing, then ignore all I previously said.
