Blackedout Posted October 19, 2011 Report Posted October 19, 2011 I have 2 15s in my civic and im pretty sure 2 12s would get louder. 1 15 vs 2 12? 2 12s will get louder. More cone area, more magnet strength, more power handling. No amount of research that you can do will be the same as getting out and building. You have not a money problem, but a skill set problem too. The best advice I can give you is to get a pair of 12s used off Craigslist and build about 5 or 6 boxes for them until you get an idea of what helps and what hurts. I say put out a budget of $150 on subs, 2 12s because a box with a height of 14" gives you many more options than a box with a height of 17" ( a single 15). Don't buy subs at a value less than you could turn around and sell them for. Your buying equipment as a tool to learn, not to compete and show off with. You'll end up getting components in there place once you research speakers a little. That gives you $200 for all the other stuff... Pick up a pioneer deh-4100ub. Again, cheap but 4v preouts which Is great. That'll get you some beat and leave you with $300 to learn off of. The reason why I say buy used or buy Cheap is because depreciation. If you buy any quality equipment brand new, you will loose 40%-50% of it's retail value as soon as you mount it. If you bought HFi subs for $80, you could turn around and probably sell the set for $60-$70 on cl if you don't put a hole in the surround, blow them, or rip a tinsel lead. They will teach you ohms law. They will teach you how to build a box, and use port area and airspace to your advantage to maximize power handling. Just the basics. Trunk Build Log

Check out my build log in my signature. If you think you can build your first box In the trunk you are better than me. You are going to put holes in surrounds, blow speakers, And make mistakes....
