Well, I went to the shop today where I got all my stuff. My subs were making a God awful noise. They told me what I pretty much figured, I blew them. 1 voice coil was completely gone and the other way almost gone they told me. They replaced the subs for free which I thought was cool of them. The subs are JL w3s.

So now...I'd like to upgrade. I'd like to keep the amp I have, and if possible, keep the box I have for now as well. The amp I have is an Alpine M2000. Any advice is appreciated. I do not know exactly what I am looking for, but I want it to be able to go low, and hit hard is about all I can say. I'm new remember, so please if you give me a bunch of abbreviations, chances are I will ask you to explain if you can. Any help is appreciated.

well first things first, i'm not sure if you were clipping or not, so if you haven't set your amps gains properly then definitely do that. if you have no clue what i'm talking about i'd be happy to explain lol.

second things second, i know sundown audio has some good deals going on their SA line of subs. they're rated at like 600 rms, but could handle plenty more if it's clean, unclipped power. also obsidian audio has amazing prices on their line of subs. very nice subs for the low lows too.

if you opened up your wallet a little bit and didn't want to risk overpowering subs, i've heard good things about the FI SSD series. for a little more money if you wanted to give yourself a little upgrade room, i've heard GREAT things about the FI Q. sound quality and output wise, it's supposedly the W7 killer. i dream about owning a pair of those Q's every night :) sadly i'm just a broke college kid so i can't do much lol.

hit me up if you need a box design on whichever woofers you get!

cheers :drinks:

Just say no to Ground Pounder Customs.

More box builds

some cars do over 170db with one sub, so clearly my two 12"s can do that in my car, with my knowledge too! look out bitches!

I'm with captain stupid.

honestly, heres what I would do..... YOu have 2 brand new drivers now, so i'd keep them, and you have a good amp, so keep that too. JL W3 are decent drivers, there just not meant for SPL type numbers or big power apps, but they do sound very nice. Lets start with a proper box for them. Give us specs of the box your using now, and lets build a proper "Ported" enclosure for em. You might be amazed how much better response you'll have from you;re setup :)

I love my staffie :good:

So anti FACEBOOK it isn't even funny

well what size are the W3s? ported or sealed?

what kind of music do you like? Do you have a budget? space confinements?

They are 12s and it is a ported box. I listen to all music from country to rap. Although I won't say I have a budget, I don't want to go crazy either. Space confinements are the trunk of a 2003 Honda Accord, and as I said, I'd like to keep the box I currently have, if at all possible.

I don't know if I was clipping or not either, cause I don't know what that sounds like. I just know that all the sudden, they sounded GOD awful. I'd like to think that the gain on the amp was correct as the store I got them from set it all up for me. I've gone thru 3 amps with them until I went with this one. I started with a PPI D1000 (I already owned it) and decided I wanted more so I went to a Kenwood (model # forgotten) but I was not happy with the Kenwood and then moved on to this Alpine amp.

I feel your pain. I go to school, work, have kids, and a marriage in Florida that I am working on, all while living in Virginia LOL

I plan on keeping this...for now. Like you said, I have 2 brand new drivers. However, I'd still like to upgrade. I want more bass than what I have now.

I do not have the specs for the box I have now. It is a ported box is about all I could tell you. I got it from the shop that I got everything else from. Could you tell me how to get the specs from my current box and maybe give me advice on whether you feel this box is ideal for the subs I have now??

I would assume/hope that the gains are set right as I had the shop do it. I measured the box and it measured 33" across 14" tall, and 16" depth. What about the Sundown SA 12, how are they compared to what I have now?
