General
Hello, I am "General", the proud `leader´ of a bunch of idiots with a strange hobby called car-audio and we all live in The Netherlands (a small country in Europe). I have a small garage box called "The Bunker" where we build SQ, SPL and dBdrag installations for competition use... and demo cars. It´s not our job... just our freakin´ hobby. I would like to show you our latest project: See the presentation on YouTube: and/or view my pics here below: Project 601 "Der Trabi" The car that we used as base for this redicule project: A '73 Trabant 601 Kombi! Engine specs: 600cc 2-stroke with 23 bhp!!! Like i mentioned before, something redicule in this thread. Do i still have your attention? Great... let's start with this project. General
First of all, since the whole car is build out of a kind of plastic, rip every thing out and start dampning/deadning. ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
We used 'StandartPlast' Dampning: And even more deadning by the use of damping pasta. This gives more deadning, and can be used as glue to fix the base of the installation: Creating the side walls of the box (it is actually strenghten the car itselves): Now it is starting to look like a sub box! You can allready see the bracing in the middle of the box: Polyester resin to give the box more strenght and it closes the box air tight: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
Created some rings to mount the subs. It is also the base of the frontbaffle: Use some fleece fabrication and add some polyester/resin: End result is a 6cm (2.6") thick frontbaffle: Time to create a decent port! To prevent portnoise and gain some extra decibels, we wanted to build a port with big flares at both sides. Therefor we have used a wooden pole and cut it in half... twice: Mounted the port at the rear of the box, just behind both subwoofers: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
Is this port flare or what! Need some power? Create some space for 3 giant Hawker batteries! 110Ah / 3500A each! That will do the trick: Both sub-amplifiers will be shown at the top of the box, in plain sight: But there is not enough space to mount them side by side... So, time for some modifications! We had to cut off all sides of amplifiers, and modified the amps so we can mount them: It's a tight fit, but it worked! It looks like this is just one single amplifier now: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
This ancient Trabi has loads of round curves from origin and we wanted to bring that back into the looks of the new install. So, back to the fleece clothing and polyester/resin: My tiny garagebox is all the work area we had during the build of this install: Now it's time to do the doors. First we cleared some space by grinding the inside panels out. Then again some dampning and deadning: With some MDF and polyester/resin we have build a new doorpanel to mount the mid- and kick- drivers: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
This gives you the idea... Two kicks at the bottom, one mid at the top. The spot for the tweeter was not yet determined at this point: First impression: Ripped the cardboard dash out... this would give to much flex and should give major problems to the headunit: This is how we gave the 22mm MDF dash his origin curve: Voilá... a full steel/mdf re-inforced dashboard: Now it's time to create a nice spot for both front amplifiers! The amp at the floor will be used for the kicks, the one above will be used for the mids and tweeters: And create some smooth details by installing a hood over the amps/batteries: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
To create a solid hood, we used loads of MDF and (ofcourse) polyester/resin: The hardest work seems to be done... General
We decided to clean the whole exterior, so no doorhandles or chrome strips anymore: But while removing all chrome, we discovered most exterior panels where a bit loose and would rattle in the future. Remember, this car is built of 90% "plastic"! So, we had to remove all panels and re-fixed them: Time to choose a nice color. We wamted something chic, and something that would fit the oldtimer: These two colors will do: The new two tone colors looks fantastic at this car: Deadning the roof: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass. General
Last details for the roof: Started the work at the power supply... As you can see we have build our own fuse holders: We placed a label on every cable, because all cables are look-a-likes due the fact they are wrapped in 'snakeskin': In case we would enter "EMMA" (European Music and Media Associating) European SQ/SPL competition format, we have followed their rules. First fuse has to be within 40cm from the batterie: ______Some people and performances are beyond words______ Chairman of the foundation "Propper-Droppers Holland" 2012 Founder of the European delegation of `Propper-Droppers' 2011 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ MultiMedia advanced 2010 European Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 Dutch Champion EMMA SQ experienced 5 channel 2007 BeNeLux vice Champion dB-drag street-A 2007 Dutch vice Champion dB-drag ministreet-sedan 2004 _________________________________________ Propper Droppers is about deep, ground wobbling, elephant-and-whale stimulating Street Bass.
