Second Skin Rep Jon
To achieve a quiet ride you have to use a combination of products. Sound deadener is designed and meant to reduce, or for the most part eliminate, resonance and structural borne noise. This helps with getting rid of the "tinny" sound, some rattles, echoing, all of that wonderful stuff. And no need to layers and layers of sound deadener either. If you use a properly designed CLD (constraint layer damper, this is the technical term for sound deadener), as little as 25% coverage on the panel is needed and thats it. For instance with our Alpha Damp, a single 20 sq. ft. pack is designed to treat an entire vehicle. Now with all of that said, some of the noise you hear inside the vehicle can not be reduced or eliminated with sound deadener, this is where barrier type products (such as our Luxury Liner and Luxury Liner Pro) come into the picture. When installed on the floor and other areas, these products will actually block sound from entering the vehicle, thus lowering the overall noise level inside the vehicle, thus giving you the perceived notion that your system is louder and cleaner (since the music isn't competing or being canceled out by the noise). So my opinion, use a high quality sound deadener material in combination with a mass loaded vinyl barrier and you will achieve your goals without breaking the bank or your back.
