Headunit Aka Deck Advice

i need knowledge on head units (decks), so if ne one can answer these question, it would be useful... also feel free to add in your $.02, if you think there anything im missing, or should know

1)which brand name head unit should i go with?

2)i was thinking alpine, or pioneer... but i dont know?

3)should i go w/ a music deck, or a dvd player deck?

4)can some explain to me what to look for in a deck? i heard something about pre-outs?

5)Are pre-outs the same on a music deck and on a dvd deck?

6)which decks are better flip out decks or mounted in dash decks?

if u have a flip out deck, let me know how it works, or if you ever had any problems w/ the motor, or ne thing?
