They're single voice coil, so if I'm correct then they should be able to be wired to 2-ohm or 8-ohm. I'm looking for an amp to temporarily put on them for a few months that'll put out about 200-300 watts at either a 2 or 8 ohm load, but that I'll also be able to hook up to mids/highs in the future when I upgrade subs/power anyways. Correct me if I'm wrong about this, but I should be able to do this with an A/B class amp right? And if all of this info is right, then would anybody be kind enough to post any reasonably priced amps that I'd be able to do so with? Thanks to anybody who can help! Build in progress

edizzil Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 very few amps(if any) are going to produce their maximum output at 8ohms so scratch that idea, 2ohms is what youre looking for....distortion(THD) is typically better on an a/b amp so go with that idea....most a/b amps will have a hp/lp filter so that shouldnt be a problem...what amp youre looking for is always going to depend on your budget...in my not so humble opinion(lol) Hifonics are the best combo of quality and dollar to watt ratio....you can get a good amp that can handle your requirements and probably quadruple your current configurations output for less than $200...if you have $500 you can purchase two amps (an a/b for mids and a D-class for subs)....if you have about $350 you can buy a nice 5 channel that will power yor subs and mids at the same time!!! it all depends on what your ultimate goals/configuration and budget are, but if youre looking for "bang-for-your-buck" hifonics is a solid choice...audiosavings.com is the place to go....you can quadruple your current power output with almost any of their amps....one thing to note: the wiring of your system is as important, if not more important, than any particular amp...amps need voltage like humans need water and even the best of amps is likely going to lag on 12 volts and 8 gauge wire....you cant quench your thirst with a half empty cup and a pixie stick!!!!

I like the comparison haha, but my ultimate goal was just to get an A/B amp to power the 2 Kicker Comps for now and then when I upgrade to 18s or something in the future I was looking to switch over the 2 or 300 watt amp to my mids/highs to save some money in the long run and already be prepared to upgrade mids/highs when that time comes. edizzil Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 this may be a good option for you: Hifonics Zeus ZXI200.2......less than $200....ive been looking at this one: Boston Acoustics GT Reference Series GT-2300....Ive never owned a Boston Acoustics amp but I like the power output on this one and the THD is at .03%. The Bostons Ive heard always sound great on mids and this one has more than enough juice for subs....for what your looking for that Boston would probably have to be tuned down...single voice coil Kickers probably have a max rating of 200-400 watts so this amp would push the hell out of them at 2ohms mono...it would probably blow them if its not gained down lol....hope some of this helped...
