AgentTyler Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 So I have a 1998 Ford Contour and my trunk latch is being cut for some reason. I'm not talking about the locking mechanism, its the latch on the top of the trunk lid. I've had subs in my car for about 16 months and It's gettings close to a quarter of the way in. I'm not sure if its from the rattling thats making it cut, or if its been like that ever since my dad had the car. But I'm just wondering, if it is the rattling from the subs is there anyway that I can stop it? Here you can see in the middle its being cut away, its close to half way. soundstream15 Posted February 28, 2012 Report Posted February 28, 2012 it could be these 2 things. does lock in place nice and tight? if not then its prob rattling against the metal and after time its just cutting into it do you slam your trunk shut pretty hard? i cant think of any other reason that would happen..i would just get it replaced, im sure they are only a few bucks..
AgentTyler Posted February 28, 2012 Author Report Posted February 28, 2012 I don't slam my trunk hard at all. But it does rattle a lot!! I think it latches tight, but I dont think tight enough. I'll mess with it tomorrow morning as well. I work at a Best Buy/Geek Squad and I talk to my Auto Tech a lot about it. He's never seen anything like it before but his best guess is that its rubbing against the metal.
