I'm building a little entertainment center for my room just to have a few speakers on it with a receiver, I was wondering how I could be able to stain it the color I want. I've read online for like 45 minutes on how people just did one coat and others did 12 coats sanding after each coat and etc. Etc. Any advice on how to do it, the steps, and what stain I should is greatly appreciated.

If it matters I'm going for a black-ish semi gloss, thanks.

I would use stain on real wood to bring out the grain. For MDF just paint, carpet or even cover in vinyl.

Yeah staining isn't really going to bring out anything on MDF. You'll just want to paint it for your color preference
