Port area

Recommended Posts

12-16in is just a rule of thumb.

I've done boxes with 11sqin per foot and 18 sqin per foot. Both sounded good, both had a flat response, both dug into the low 20s. Just depends on your application.

Don't quote me on this being that I'm still learning about boxes. But SEALED is going to lean more towards SQ ported for SPL. So that tuning your getting on the torres is for SPL it's a general rule of thumb of what it should be inbetween for subwoofers when dealing with a slotted port.

No. Ported, if you do it right, yields a flatter response than a sealed box. The only time I really ever recommend going with sealed over ported is if you don't have enough space to do a proper ported box.

Sealed>ported for SQ is just an old wives tale lol

Oh really? Flatter response as in? I just noticed the sealed have more of a punchy response rather than a port has the longer dragged out boooom. Well i've always had ported so im good so far:D

EDIT: Wise tale is also that sealed is better for rock ect and ported is for rap as well correct? I've always been basing it off those.

I was about to say...although JL have a knack to sound better in small sealed box. Ported sounds way better than sealed. I try to keep it in between 14-16 ported area, tuned at 32-36hz. I listen to all sort of music.

New build coming soon.

Was thinking about would a smaller port area give u more cone control maybe ? Maybe there is a little bit of back pressure built up.

Smaller box more cone control, bigger less cone control if im not mistaken .. which I could very well be if I am well.. heres a free bump :D
