jrchevy87
Nothing too special, the sub is a pioneer champion pro 12, its in a crappy box right now with a crappier amp(Boss Phantom 500.2 that i clamped at 156 watts) lol. This is the box ive been building for it and when i can come up with the money ill get a good amp but for now it'll have to stay hooked up to the boss amp. For the speakers im running factory fronts for now and pioneer 6x8's in the pods with a custom adapter. The box is 2 cubic feet after sub and bracing displacement and tuned to 32 .29hz with 25.12 square inches of port. The box is a little on the big side but i figured it was worth a shot to see how it performs. Thats my progress so far, tomorrow i get to spot putty and prime then when i get money i can paint it. Im gonna do a jet black with a satin clear for now to match the cap on the jeep but when i repaint it im gonna do the box and cap in black with candy apple red. jrchevy87
Thanx for the compliment. Well i just ordered a new amp(audiopipe APSM1500, i know its cheap but ive seen some promising things about this series of amps and well im broke as hell lol. i will clamp it i dont have an oscope or dd-1 yet but ill clamp it again when i get one) and some excelene 1/0 welding cable. I got the box in the jeep and it sounds so much better than the old 1.25 ft^3 box and hits way lower. I'll take pictures when the weather subsides, the port is a little closer to the side than i wanted but the pioneers spiderless suspension doesnt offer the best low frequency control so im hoping the loading will help it dig lower. The paint is gonna have to wait till next month due to lack of funds but o well ill just be happy to hear this thing with more than 150 something watts, amazingly tho on the crappy boss amp i get some ok roof flex. jrchevy87
another update i got my wiring and amp in today, now i just gotta wait for the fuse holder and terminals to comein and i can install it all and clean everything up. The apsm 1500 And the royal excelene 1/0 ofc welding cable, im pretty impressed with the flexability of the wire considering the size of the strands, its as flexible as my tsunami but looks like its got 2/3's the strands(im not gonna count em lol0 Jeep Wrangler TJ Hardtop Build
jrchevy87
I got all the parts in and got everything installed and i wanted to play it to see how it sounded but my dumbass forgot to buy a fuse lol. The closest place to buy anl fuses around here is a few hours away. I went into my local audio shop to buy one and he told me, and i quote, "anl fuses arent popular and with your amp an 80 amp agu fuse would be fine" then he tryed to sell me one for 30 bucks, i had to laugh and walk away, so now i got one ordered cuz it'll cost way lass to buy one and pay for shipping than it would for me to go get one. I still have to make a base for the box so i can hide the wires, i was thinking it'd be kinda cool to see the wires but now that im looking at it i dont like it. I also gotta get the plexi cover smoked out, just running low on money lol The plexi cover ready to be smoked All the wires soldered and ready to go, this is my first time soldering anything bigger than 16 ga and i actually prefer to solder the big shit lol And now for the amp at home in the rack and still enough room left for 1 maybe 2 extra batts Jeep Wrangler TJ Hardtop Build
Airborne
box looks great! I like what you did with the ports. Did you factor in the wood flares when you got the length?
jrchevy87
yep i just figured it in as external port length, i was gonna flare the pvc but the pvc section i had wasnt long enough so i added the wood to extend it to get the tuning i wanted and it was so much easier and looks a lot better imo Jeep Wrangler TJ Hardtop Build
jrchevy87
well i got everything ran and installed turned on the radio and turned it up and went to turn the gain up on the amp and as soon as i turned it up just a little bit i hear a pop and then it smokes like a son of a bitch, so i figure well shit thats what i get for buying a cheap ass amp. well i went to hook the boss amp back up and for some reason i felt like checking the resistance on the sub and it was .3 ohms in series, i pulled the sub out and each coil on a 2 ohm sub was .2 per coil! so now im out an amp and gotta send the sub out for another one, what a wonderful day Jeep Wrangler TJ Hardtop Build
