Brandon B
How are you guys achieving that high gloss paint finish on your glass work? I know it starts with having a very smooth surface but can it be obtained with rattle can paint or does it need to be automotive grade paint shot with a paint gun? If so, could some of you walk me through the steps you take? Thanks
AUDIOADDICT02
After you have smoothed everything out & prepped the surface, you could use a rattle can(AVOID KRYLON at all costs)! for color, but to really make it shine, I would recommend spraying a good quality urethane clearcoat followed by wetsanding & buffing once it's all cured. Brandon B
Can the clear be sprayed over the rattle can paint or do I need to make sure it's a urethane based paint as well? I still need to educate myself on what paints can be used together and what can't.
AUDIOADDICT02
Yes it can, although you might want to try a test piece first(I had "Krylon" wrinkle up one me when spraying clear on it), most rattle cans are "enamel" paints & our local Finishmaster gives out enamel basecoat when using a clearcoat system. It'll be okay as long as you're using solvent-based paints. I'd personally stay away from laquer. Brandon B
Thanks for the info, at least gives me a place to start. I have a cheap spray gun from HB that sprays ok but I didn't want to spend the money on automotive paint just to find out I'm going to need a dedicated spray system to shoot it. AUDIOADDICT02
No problem man. You don't need top of the line tools to do the job in most cases it's about technique. I've painted complete cars with spray guns from HF.
