Soo BAD news. My car took a massive shit, believe it or not. Sounds like an engine knock from the crank pulley side of the engine. I'm gonna change all the idlers and tensioners just to make sure, but it doesn't sound good to me. It's a damn shame, because I never once abused the car. Wet weather is my primary suspect, I hit some nasty puddles and my CAI did me in, puffed out white smoke and eventually ended up with a knock. Hard to say though. I'll keep i posted. Worst comes to worst I just have to get a new motor..... Or maybe a new vehicle. I'd like to stay with a probe but with college bearing down I can't afford the time or money for the upkeep. I may have to park this one in the barn for awhile.

Make sure your gas is free of water, change your plugs, check O2 sensor, run 93 for a tank or two and see where it all gets you. Knock is usually caused by fuel burning improperly (octane too low).

I run 91 as it is. It's a KLZE, so compression is 10:1, I need to. I'll look into a few of those though. I doubt it's just gonna go away sadly.... But I'm an optimist first and foremost, so it can't hurt to try, thanks for the ideas.

Well, can't say I've had too much experience with Mazda engines besides RX7 rotaries but usually engine knock/shake is from high compression due to carbon buildup, contaminated gas, or a fouled up O2/mass airflow sensor. I don't know how clean your engine is, probably cleaner than I know. I rebuild my engines every 150k and seafoam every 50k with no problems for 500k+ on 3 F-150 5.4ls various years, 2 '95 Chevy 1500s with 350 small blocks, and now my Vortec 4.3l and I've had knock with a few of them before I took care of the root cause.

Rotaries haha. DOn't even get me started on those. Mazda made a reat engine in the KLZE, but it's really meant to run off of 95 octane that they have in Japan, but I cannot readily get here. So 10:1 compression plus sucking in a little water was fatal to be sure. I'm only worried it' a piston ring that went. It ran great before I pulled it apart, so I'm optimistic about it just being a rod. THe engine has 71k on it and is clean as a whistle. Came from Japan at 40k.

Sorry guys been busy as all hell! I've got the engine out and somewhat apart. THere's oil in cylinder 3, probably a hole in a piston, and I believe a rod bearing needs to be replaced. I've been busy helping my dad with his tractor malfunctions, so haven't had a ton of time to work on it. I'll put some pics up after the 4th. Thanks for the interest though! Means alot to this guy.

Oh gosh you have no idea. It's unberlievable how hard it is to work on this particular car. I could pull an engine out of a truck in about 4 hours, this took me an entire day. It's a case of the fat guy and a phone both, except somehow that fat guy fit in, and now he can't get out haha.

I've been soo lazy lately, and haven't wanted to put up these pics, but I suppose I should.....

Got the sumbish on the stand, had to modify the stand to get it to fit of course.....

Had to get the flywheel assembly off to make it work as well.

I pulled the AC condenser off.... it never worked anyhow. I'm thinking another alternator would be better anyhow.

Got all the accessories off.

Was pulling all the plugs when i pulled an oil drenched plug our of cylinder 3 (rear bank) Whole rear bank had little oil spills all over the place. I'm guessing the head gasket went as well as the cylinder. Not sure if the ring or the piston itself failed yet though. I suspect the ring.

Eff it. Enough work end day 1 of overhaul. Garage is sweltering...
