hey guys, been looking around on smd for like 2 years now but never posted anything before.. i can honestly say that this is by far my favorite car audio site.. well let me tell you guys about my system.. ive got a 95 honda civic lx 4 door, viper alarm, i think its a 165 amp alt, big 3 done with 0g, kinetik 1400 up front under the hood and 2 kinetik 1800's in the trunk. have no backseats in the car.. instead ive got 2 - 15" fi bl's dual 2ohm in an 8 cuft common chamber box thats ported into the trunk. box is tuned to about 34 with subs facing up. box is huge and barely fit into the car. its a whole piece of mdf wide and barely cleared the doors. box had to be put in thru the front doors and the port was made separetly and had to be put into position first and fitted into the box with t-nuts and bolts. box and port without the subs in weights 175 pounds. double baffel and totally fiberglass sealed inside. box i so tall that you cant even take the subs out of the car cuz the dont fit out between the top of the box and the roof. car is riding low.. haha. probably over 500 pounds of stuff in the car. each sub is ran off a rf T10001bd power amp.. ive had this sysytem in the civic for about 2 years now. i hook up my battery charger at least once a week for a bunch of hours that way my batts are always topped off..

so i blew a fuse (first time ever in these amps) in one of my amps 3 days ago so i went to replace it. put fuse in, made sure everything was correct, turn the head unit on and flip my switch that turns on all my amps and saw the magical white smoke come out of the same amp that i had blown the fuse on.. to my knowledge everything was 100% hooked up corectly.. the amps were bought refurbished. I bought refurbished amps because they were cheaper and at the time of purchase i was kinda tight on cash.. ive had the amps for 3 years now and have had absolutely no problems whatsoever with them.. this was literally the first time..

so i reaching out to you guys for advice on what i should do.. i could easily just buy a new rf t10001bd and just replace the blown one. saw a used one go for 205$ plus 25 shipping on ebay the other day.. theres a refurbished one up on ebay now that ends in 5 days. dont know if i wanna buy another refurbished amp to just replace it.. i know buying a replacement amp would be the cheapest option. been doing research and figured i have 2 other options. i could just buy 2 new amps and run one to each sub at 1ohm or 1 big amp and run it at 2 ohms so i could run both subs off the one amp.. not sure what im gonna do yet.. i know my alt isnt the biggest so that was my first concern. the bl's took the power from my rockford's like a champ and murdered the lows, so i was thinking about possibly running alittle more power to each sub if you guys think my electrical could handle it.. i dont know though.

ive got a decent amount of cash that i could spend on new amps. (kicked ass at the casino 2 weeks ago playing 2-5 no limit). i wanted to buy an amp(s) that i could eventually use further down the road when i upgrade vehicles and subs. was looking at the aq 1200 but wasnt sure if it was gonna be a huge upgrade on power from my rf's. also dont know if i should buy them cuz they may not be the best choice for when i decide to upgrade next year. i could get the aq2200 for each sub but would have to seriously watch the sub volume cuz i doubt these subs would be able to handle anywhere near that much power. further more i dont know if it would be a good idea to run that much power off my electrical system. another choice was the aq3500, says it put out about 2600 watts at 2 ohms.. again i dont know if that would nessacerally be a huge upgrade on power from the rf's.. then again i dont exactly know what kinda of wattage the rf's were putting out.

i know there are alot of other amps out there that i havent used before.. all the amps ive had in my lifetime (well all of the good ones) have been rockford so i guess i just need your help on suggestions.. dont wanna spend more than like 800ish bucks at the absolute absolute most.. also didnt want to go out and get a bigger alt made for my car cuz its got lots of miles on it and i probably wont have it for more than another year. any and all concerns and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. thanks guys

Basically you want to know if you should repair your RF t10001bd or buy a new amp.

I really like the old Power series, so I would get it repaired. But, it may be $100-$150 to do so.

In that case you can sell your broken amp for ~$50 and look for something new. In your situation I would be looking at an amp that's around 2000 watts. I assume you wired your subs series/parallel to see a 2 ohm load on your amp? In this case you should find a amp that is optimized for 2 ohms.

If you want to be a little more risky you can try a parallel / parallel setup and get a amp that is 0.5 ohm stable. These are usually more expensive and can be much less efficient. Since I don't think you want to blow another amp, look into 2 ohm amp.

Alpine and RF have some. If you look around I'm sure you can find some more.
