Adnan
Hey guys im working on a new box for 2 15" RE SEs in my Acura 1.7EL ( civic). I have a few questions regarding the tuning frequency and port noise,i'm aiming for 32-30hz. 1-I've been told that most box calculators are not accurate when it comes to tuning and its good idea to tune lower then desired frequency. In this case i've aimed for 25hz on the Torres box builder.Would this put me in the 30-32hz range? 2- Would a 3" port work well in this setup? Any tips on how to reduce port noise besides rounding the edges, both the subs and the port will be firing towards the trunklid. Thanks!
Joe X
I have found that in many cases Torres predicts in slot ported boxes a slightly higher tuning than what the JL Audio paper is based on would give if you do all the calculations yourself. It's about 1-2 hertz above in most cases BUT never that much as 6-7 Hertz, So if it says 32 it will probably be 30-31. There is also a flaw when calculating multiple aero ports. A single hertz error is very difficult to notice so I wouldn't be very much concerned.
Adnan
Thanks for your reply Joe I raised the tuning to 32hz and now the port length is 10" instead of 25",am I in the right direction? Also do you think a 3" would pose any problems as far as port noise?
Joe X
I usually draw boxes either to be built or as a fast way to show what I would do, since you are interested in the design process check out with the calculator the following spec for your subs and in the dimensions you used and let me know your questions concerns etc: Enclosure Specifications: Fb = 32 Hz Vb = 6.32 ft^3 External Height = 18 in External Width = 39 in External Depth = 25 in Port Width = 5 1/2 in Cut Sheet List: * All Dimensions in Inches. * Wood Thickness is 3/4 for all Parts. External Enclosure Parts: 2 x Front & Back (3 parts) = 39 x 18 Left & Right Sides = 22 3/4 x 16 1/2 Top & Bottom = 39 x 22 3/4 L Port Internal Assembly Parts: Front to Back = 17 1/4 x 16 1/2 Extension = 2 x 16 1/2 Assembly guide (generic dimensions):
