mitchell830
I have a black truck that I waxed by hand about a week ago and today in the sunlight I could so a ton on swirl marks in the paint. Was wondering how could I get rid of it? I know they make the swirl remover stuff but do I have to put it on with a buffer?

Nivram
Okay.. Your first mistake was choosing black.. Black cars show everything man.. The only way to remove scratches/swirls from black is to wet sand with trizact 3000grit paper get a wheel and rub it 1000-1600rpm with a good rubbing compound. wizards is good and 3m are also good compounds. Take your sweet time!!! Hold the wheel flat and dont press down to hard otherwise you will burn your clear coat and you will need to re paint it. Work small sections at a time. use a qaurter size drop of compound work that into your pannel then repeat untill no dull spots. make sure to work in an area with shade and or out of the sunlight So you can easily find your dull spots. Then polish the car with a foam pad at 1200-1600rpm Finnaly use an even finer swirl remover polish at 800rpm dont work it in just slide over your panels leave the polish on wet. wait for it to haze up then wipe off with microfiber cloth... ta dahh!!! rogue
if you are having to ask this question then you should not touch that truck with a buffer. take it to someone who deals with this problem. Otherwise you are likely to make it worse. JacobB89
He is not gonna need to wet sand it if its only some swirl marks, compound maybe at the most if there nothing crazy no reason to wet sand right away unless its really bad try to compound it first. Nivram has the right steps on how to do it but id just try to compound and buff if its that bad try on 1 panel if it works then do the rest if not then might have to step it up to wet sanding but depending on how old the car is i wouldn't go to crazy on it don't want to burn through the clear and be screwed. if you do decide to get a buffer get a DA buffer less chance to mess anything up. and after you do all the steps put a coat of wax on your car since compound removes it all from the car so you need something on there to protect the clear. bassface
Are the swirls actually scratches or just residue?
bassface
I think a buffer would be fine to use, its not like you are going to be using a cutting compound.
