Sometimes just one little part goes, sometimes that one part causes a lot of resistance once broken, then you have a little Chernobyl in your amp. Almost every amp failure goes like this... too little voltage or faulty parts cause heat (somewhere, usually the output FETs or power supply), heat causes resistance, resistance causes more current draw, more current draw causes more heat, etc. Thermal cascades are fun.
