2008 Chevy Silverado Audio Build/Rebuild

This is my 2008 Chevy Silverado, I've owned it for a while and have slowly been adding to my audio setup over the years.

What my setup currently consists of:

-Pioneer AVIC Z920BT double din unit

-Sundown SAX-1200D mono amplifier

-Two Sundown SD-2 10in. subwoofers mounted in a Sub Thump under seat box.

-1/0 gauge welding wire powering the Sundown amp.

-Second Skin Alda-Damp covering the back wall and floor. Dynamat Dynaliner on the backwall replacing the factory material.

-Other small things: I plugged the rear cab vents. Amp rack mounted to the back cab wall.

What I've worked on recently and have plans for is to work on my front stage/components install along with a few other small things I plan to build and install. I got a set of JL Audio 3 way components lying in a box waiting to be put in. I plan on building a set of fiberglass speaker pods on the doors to hold the 6.5 and 4 inch speakers and the tweeters will go up in the factory spots on the A pillars. I recently finished up the install and build of a fiberglass pod to hold my new SMD VU-DIN and a Stinger volt meter that is mounted on the lower, center dash panel. My other small things I plan to do is to raise up the rear seat and raise up the Sub Thump box since the subs hit the floor and then work on cleaning up and organizing the previous wiring a little better.

I don't have many pictures of all my products to go in right at this moment, but will update this thread when I do.

How it currently sits...

Interior. LT trim level with cloth seats. Pioneer Avic x920BT double din. Suede headliner, sunvisors, and A pillars. All plastics around or for those pieces/areas were dyed black to match. Grant Revolution steering wheel. Escalade shifter. LEDs in all the dome and vanity lights.

First off is my build on the panel/pod for the VU-DIN and volt meter.

I used some styrene sheets I had. Use this stuff for model building and its very easy to cut. Stuff cut and laid out.

The VU-DIN will be flush mounted. The styrene used is the same thickness as the VU-DIN.

Holes cut. Two pieces glued together. Will have to add some styrene to the backside to make the volt meter sit however deep I want it.

Pulled out the center, lower dash panel and started to fiberglass a pod for the VU Din and volt meter. The panel for those, I did a little more work and tweaking to it. Laid down masking tape and put a light coat of wax over the tape. This is my first time ever doing fiberglass work like this, so I'm anxious to see how it turns out.

The next morning after I had laid down the fiberglass for my base, I had found out I failed on mixing up my resin. It had been a little while since I had messed with any fiberglass work. So I don't what I was reading wrong when I mixed it up. It eventually hardened, but I wanted to start over since the base wasn't going to be wide enough. Took it off and started over again. Much better results the second time around. You live and you learn.

Cut and sitting how I wanted it

Used a hot glue gun to position the face plate how I wanted it.

Mounted

Fabric got stretched over it and glued on the backside. Received a coat of resin, let dry. Then added a layer of fiberglass to mostly the bottom and sides.

Roughed it up with my little air grinder

Body filler work and before primer.

After primer, it got block sanded down with 180, primed again and then painted

Black paint I used. Its Dupont. Satisfied with the way it came out.

The little machine screws aren't tightened down on the back side in these pics. If they were, the VU-DIN will be sucked down more onto the panel. Once it is, the display will sit flush on the panel itself.

Next I got it mounted to the dash panel. Wiring ran for the volt meter and the VU-DIN. Both are not tuned yet. I need to get my hands on a mult-meter to make sure the volt meter is spot on and the VU-DIN I got it hooked up to my subs right now but didn't tune with my DD-1 just yet. I will do so once I get my components installed. Then one side will be for the mids/highs and the other side for the subs. Here's a quick vid I took with my Go Pro showing it off....

Thanks. Your '12 is pretty sharp too! I might have to throw up some more pics. The interior has painted panels, dash, etc. along with suede.

Thanks guys. I too am happy with the way my little pod came out to mount that stuff. After I got my hands on a VU-DIN and the volt meter and started fabbing up the panel, I come across the ninja pics of the new SMD volt meter that will be coming out. I really like the look and function of that unit, but really don't want to tear this one all apart and completely redo it. One thing I do plan on doing is probably tearing it down again and refinish it with some basecoat/clearcoat instead of the rattle can paint. I didn't want to drag out all my materials and everything for such a small piece. I'll get a much better finish on it someday later down the road.
