TwinkeyMerchant Posted August 2, 2012 Report Share Posted August 2, 2012 Ok, so i've helped a couple of my friends install system in there vehicles and my buddy who DJ's wanted me to build him a set up. He currently uses a Bass cabinet he use to use when he played bass with 4 10's in it... thing gets down but really just not enough mids and highs and one of the 10's is blown. Im really wanting to help him have a BADASS set up cause house partys with him there is just awesome. Anyways my main problem is how to power the subs and speakers. never did or looked up anything to do with home audio or anything like that so im kinda lost on the situation. If anyone would help shine a little light on whats good equipment to use to power his setup or send links to stuff that would work, I'd appreciate it. Bump4life Posted August 3, 2012 Report Share Posted August 3, 2012 crown amps for pa audio. there are other good ones, and better ones but for the money you get quality product. if you run 2 quality 15s a 18 inch sub and 2 powerful super tweets it would probably be enough for a large room 300 people or so. Get a horn loaded compression driver. they spread the highs alot better then tweeters and are alot more effecent. How big is he wanting to go. I would suggest 2 cabs a side. one with a single 18. one with 2 15"s and a horn. Alan Follette Posted August 3, 2012 Report Share Posted August 3, 2012 qsc is great on a budget. used to run 3 of the 1450s when I did live sound. as for speakers I built my own pair of 2x18 cabs with the eminence sigma pro 18s. Alan Follette Posted August 3, 2012 Report Share Posted August 3, 2012 This was my old live sound setup. 2 cabs with two 18s a piece and then 2 cabs with a single 15 and a tweeter. we used a cheaper Behringer crossover that worked ok but i linked to one that has time alignment and Auto EQ both things I really wish we would have had. I ran this setup for 2-3 years and did 2 shows a month in front of 400-600 kids it kept up amazingly well, easily overpowered the bands and maintained great SQ. However we only occasionally played bass heavy music but I would be confident this would work VERY WELL for 300-500 people playing rap/dubstep. Have a look through and see what you think would work for what he needs. And again this is personal preference I would use a horn over a tweeter anyday. But read up as much as you can on every item and make sure they will all work well together regarding crossover points etc. is he wanting the mid/highs to be bi amped? If budget is tight, then look at the likes of Behringer, Gemini RS/GVX, etc. Mid-priced range would be EV ELX (my personal recommendation), JBL PRX, QSC K/KW, etc. But the big name in the mobile DJ world is RCF. Brian Redd (Youtube DJ) uses them on his "one-man" setup (He had a stroke sometime last year and has limited mobility in his right arm) and he loves the 8" speakers, and have heard nothing but good things about them, if you can afford them. RCP Audio Posted August 4, 2012 Report Share Posted August 4, 2012 The active mackies take a pounding aswel! and get dam loud! qsc and jbl are very music (concerts) bins IMO, the likes of the RCF's and mackies seem to me if they are more targeted to DJ set ups.
