archos Posted August 3, 2012 Report Posted August 3, 2012 ok i just got my system finally hooked up in my car, its the stock head unit going through a pac oem unit back to a kicker 2 to 3 way crossover then to two xtant amps. on is a 400x4 and the other is a 600x1. the issue is my highs cut out randomly while the voliume is up. would that be from only useing a 4ga wire as my power and ground? the sub dosent, it keeps playing hard and loud but the highs stop then come back up to 10 sec later. ive been checking everything out and its all tight with the power, gnd, rem, and the speaker wires. could it be the crossovers for the highs? there jl audio. sorry if its all discompulbated its the first system ive done in 5yrs so im out of pratice.

archos Posted August 4, 2012 Author Report Posted August 4, 2012 ok i went out and played it over lunch. she played great for about 15min then its started doing it again. i check for a light i had none even the power light was out. so i shook the wire with no luck there in there tight. for s and g's i tapped on the amp and the lights flickered. when i really taped it they came on and stayed on. so turned down the power and the highs worked. so im thinking something is loose in the amp itself. guess ill have to look into a new amp.

I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.
archos Posted August 6, 2012 Author Report Posted August 6, 2012 i re adjusted all the power and ground wires going to the amp with no luck checked ground no luck . to me it looks like something is loose inside the amp. i tap on it or go over a bumb while driving it will turn off and come back on in a few seconds so i pulled it and pulled it apart but dont see nothing ovbious loose. but it leads me to my question, i did see two solder that looked bad, one was to the fan on the heat sync and the other goes to i think a temp sensor on one of the mount screws for the heat sync its covered in black siliacone maybe? would the bad solders on that part cause the amp to turn fully off then come back on like nothing happened? or should i keep looking? its this amp here http://www.xtant.com/ProductPage.aspx?id=186
