Wiring 2 amps

Here's a rundown of a situation... I'm going to be doing an install soon on a car. It's my friend's car. Right now, he has 8 gauge wiring running to an old school Crunch Drive series Amp. It's rated at 500 watts hooked up to 2 12" audiobahns. They sound good, but now that the door speakers have been changed, its time to amp those. I have a semi brand new Crunch P1-16502 amp laying around that's "rated" at 1600 watts (although it can't push 2 10 inch Alpines worth a crap without making it go into protect... which happens often). Anyways, what's the best solution to throw 2 amps in the trunk without breaking the bank? The 500 amp has been running good with 8 guage but the 1600 one requires 4 gauge. I know I will need a distribution block but I'm not sure if I can run a 4GA wire to the trunk to power these 2 amps. Do I need to run 2 gauge?

A run of 4 gauge OFC front to back will be good. You're only running about 100A or less.

Either user error, or your amp is broken.

What are the voicecoil configurations of the alpines?

And maybe it's the liquor, but why can't you run 4 gauge? And if for ehstever reason you can't, why is 2 gauge a better option?
