Bronco+Jetta build - now fully active- soundstream, sundown, hertz, AB

Recommended Posts

Hi I'm new to the posting part of the forum (although I've been lurking for quite some time now wink.gif)

I'm Ryan, 21 y/o working my way through college etc. Enough chit chat. Here are my two vehicles.

My Daily Driver is a 2010 Jetta MKV. It's still in its infancy as far as car audio goes, but this forum has given me plenty of ideas of where I want to go with the build.

Onto the pictures!

excuse the night pic, but it's all I have of the new head unit. Pioneer 4400

I'm working on getting these sold and replaced with 2 12's. I still have a lot of research left to do until I can find something that I'll be happy with.

Old school L5 15's holding down the back seat dirol.gif

And the power supply. It's a very cheap budget amp, also looking to get it replaced. Again, need to do more research, but this is where the system is at right now. I tested it with an oscope and I'm getting about 600w rms at 2 ohms; although it is wired to 1 ohm nominal. Not quite rated power (750 at 2 ohms) but it works for now.

Future plans are (in no particular order)

2 12's to get 15's out of back seat and into trunk.

New amp for said 12's.

Big 3 upgrade.

New battery(ies)

Build front stage 3-way components.

Build rear stage 2-way components.

Amp(s) for front/rear stage.

And onto the more awesome of my two vehicles. This is my 1979 Ford Bronco. It's kind of a beater, but it's my beater and that's what matters. It's mostly used for small street cruises and stupid beer-fueled offroad adventures.

411981_10151331427959622_1956591589_o.jpg

And onto sound system pics.

Front stage is 6.5 JBL Marine speakers (went with marine speakers because the truck is topless most of the time and I didn't want to worry about rain problems). I went with the JBL's because I got them for next to nothing. They're buried behind the door panels.

Rear stage is 6x9 JBL Marine speakers

Head unit is a too-cheap-to-steal Kenwood I got for next to nothing.

And finally, the amp that nobody will ever know about slayer.gif

The sub in the back is an old school 15 Solo classic that I got for free from a buddy. The surround had come loose, so I just used some HD 3M molding compound to glue it back together, and it does the job just fine. Here are some pics from the "rebuild job"

looking forward to seeing what u do with the jetta... is it the gas 4banger or tdi?

how do u like the pioneer 4400?

i have an 09 jetta tdi btw... =]

It's the gas 5 banger (not a typo) 2.5Liter. Has a 5 speed. I'm currently driving it like I stole it so that I can blow it up and replace it with a tdi/6spd combo :slayer:

The 4400 is one of the best head units I've ever owned. I got it for under 350 new. Tested all the Output RCA's on it with an oscope and it doesn't clip even at 40/40. Very satisfied. Also a major reason for choosing the 4400 was its 7 band EQ. Most head double din units in the 300-400 range have 3 bands. I love the ability to plug in a USB or an iphone and have everything right there at my fingertips. When searching for music, it's not laggy at all, everything is sharp and responsive.

If you're considering one, I honestly have nothing bad to say about it. It's a wonderful unit.

An update for both vehicles

Got some cheapo Memphis coax's to hold me over until I can go 3 way front active. Got their pro series for 30 bucks shipped for the pair and threw them on an free.99 4 channel quantum amp. Not a huge fan of the amp running on just the front channels, so I bridged it, and am currently pushing "200" watts to each speaker. (rated at 50)

First up to remove was the door panel... front and back...

The nazi's decided it would be good to use molex connectors between the car and the door, so it was time to bust out the power drill and run some wires.

The factory component. Its a 7.75 speaker, that produces absolutely no bass whatsoever. Rather disappointing VW.

If you noticed, I drilled 6 holes in the molex, wires have already been run for the 3 way front stage to the amp mounting location. All I need now is speakers :)

The bronco also received some upgrades.

The Tie Rod ends were flipped and some upgraded beefcake steering parts were added.. enjoy ;)

I have a 06 Mk5 also. You can fit both 15's in trunk if you wanted to, but you would have to build in trunk to do it though. Looking nice though. What DD did you use for it? I had a Metra one and it fit like shit. So I'm just going to go single din and found a factory single din converter to have the factory look to it. I also have an 86 F150 that I try to do some stuff to little by little. I should be starting my jetta build here in a few weeks. Can't wait to see progress here.

formerly known as Blue86f150

its a 4th order just because its tuned in the 40z doesnt mean it wont reach down and jiggle your balls at sub 30 hz frequencies.

Regardless if they were dipped platinum and were stuffed in Beyonce's twat.....way too fucking exspensive

I am also using the metra setup. It's ok, has a small gap around the outside of the unit and the factory housing, but it does the job.

Sold off the Kickers and the Hifonics amp today for 350. Going to use that money to invest in a new sub stage that will actually fit in my trunk. Looking at 2 SA 12's on a BRE2000.1

  • 3 weeks later...

They came in a couple weeks ago.

3427_10151503951109622_1366081796_n.jpg

Just an old box I had sitting in my closet, stuffed it with polyfill and they sound decent on the tiny crap amp. Next buy will be a decent amp for the sundowns.

536807_10151503951279622_1435115850_n.jpg

The quantum amp was loaned to me from a friend, but this just got here a couple days ago :D

Still need to do a bit of wire tidying, but it's coming along nicely.

Seats fold up no problem, this took some time to get the amps to line up just right.

And the middle folds down for the port :D

Also, picked these up for the office for $30
