2 Kicker comp CVX's

4 awg from battery to amp

car came stock with 1 awg wiring from alt to battery

one 2 awg engine ground

My problem is voltage drop, severe dimming and rpm drop when bass hits.

My amp and battery are getting 14.3 to 14.4 volts at idle. It drops to 12.4 to 11.8 when bass hits

I unhooked and cleaned up all my connections with a wire wheel and and parts cleaner and saw minimal difference.

My questions are.........

Should I add another battery?

Will I see that much difference upgrading from 1 awg to 0 awg?

Im planning on adding another engine ground but Im not sure how much it will help.

I was wondering how much difference would using 0 awg make over 1 awg?

What voltage should I see at my battery with a 140 amp alt?

Does it matter that my battery is in the trunk and not near the alt?

Is there a way to freshen up my alt?

Will running ground from my battery to my frame make much difference?

When I say dimming....people think Im flashing my headlights at them at night.

At idle my rmp's drop enough that the car will occasionally die.

I can live with the dimming lights but when the car dies if im playing late night

tip it gets on my nerves and obviously my amp wont do rated power on

low voltage.

I can get very nice 1 awg wire with high temp jacket for $2.17 a foot so I was hoping

that would be big enough. I can pick up a rebuilt 140 amp alt for around $125 if

you guys think that might be the problem. Im going to have my battery tested

tomorrow because its getting kind of old also.

Ideas?

You could have your alternator rewound to push out a few more amps. How many watts does your amp push out? There wouldn't be much of a noticeable difference between 1 and 0 gauge. You could add another run of 1 or 0 gauge to your batt. You could also add another batt
