building mid /highs

Iv seen ppl now using 6''-8'' mids and supertweeters. Is this a better way to go they buying a set of comp. I aslo wonder how do you wire them. Should they have a x-over, 1 mid anp 1 highs amp or some other way.

I wouldn't say it is better but you can pick and choose the right drivers for your setup. Many 4 channels have x-overs built into them now which you could use for the mids and highs. If you don't have much exp a comp set would be easier but not always less expensive.
