mbdblue
posting up some guts from a Clif Designs amp I was very generously given by Jared420 for helping him with his build. The amp isn't working 100%, he let me know it has been repaired and when he got it back, hooked it up; its fine until it goes above ~13 volts and protects. My roommate thinks it may have been repaired with weaker MOSFETS that can't handle the higher voltage, but we're waiting for a larger power supply so we can run a couple bench tests and see. Anyone who may have any ideas would be great too, but onto the pics! mbdblue
yeah man, been considering american bass XD-8s cuz they're pretty cheap. Don't feel like spending like 200+ a sub when Im gonna need 5-6 of them. And we're probably gonna be testing out the amp this weekend since we got the power supply, its capable of 21 volts AA-Atomic-Clif Designs-DC-Diamond-Digital Designs-Directed-Eclipse-Fi-Hertz-Hifonics-Kenwood-Memphis-Phoenix Gold-Pioneer-PPI-PSi-Stinger-Sundown-TC Sounds-Viper-Zapco
mbdblue
little update on this, my roommate and I tested this amp a little over a month ago; but since we only have a 40 amp supply, thats all we can test it on. It seems to hold up fine and protect at low voltage. Took it up to 16 volts and seemed to do fine, but again this is only drawing about 40 amps. I brought it out of the heatsink for the 2nd time today to look at the back of the board, and found some solder that had dripped between connections at a couple different points....no idea if it effected it negatively but I took the excess off anyway. Still open to anyone who has ideas. mbdblue
Reviving this thread. So this amp has sat for 3 years now....holy shit. I really want to fix the cosmetic scratches on the front this winter (really simple if I bring it to work with the tools I have access to) I'll lose the model number on the right hand side but I'm not really worried about that. But I managed to break the output terminal block during the winter being stupid (hairline crack over all 5).... I took the endcap off and it isn't just cracked, it's completely broken from the board. I've been trying to send it out to get fixed but it seems like I can't find a company that will do it for me that's anywhere close. I've been told (by DB-r) that the board is an oddball and it's difficult to find parts for. I'm going to try and contact 1 more company that's remotely close to the East coast (Amp Medics in FL). Then it looks like I may have to send it cross country (that is, if they repair these at ZED). Sucks cuz I'm trying not to lose my ass on shipping but if I have to send it to and from California, I know it's not gonna be cheap. I'm wondering if I can just de-solder the rest of the block pieces and solder in some direct leads. May be worth a shot if I can't find a place to get it fixed and tested. If anyone else knows a place that's relatively close to the East, I'd love to know. I need the terminal block fixed and the amp tested for voltage issues. mbdblue
just tried getting a quote from Amp Medics....came right back saying mailbox is full. So much for that. Just checked Zed's prices for fixing an amp this big, starting at 300 bucks....that on top of shipping it, I'm pretty close to buying a functioning amp that makes the same power. Damn, I might just attempt de-soldering the terminal pieces and soldering in some leads. Not sure if it can work but I don't know why it wouldn't.
