Captain Stupid Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Yes, I built the box. It's real carbon fiber, four layers inside and outside and 12 layers reinforcing every inside corner. Box is DEAD solid!!! 2006 Cadillac Escalade 2/3 drop on 28" wheels Two RE SX 18" subs RF T2500-1bdCP amp, 3531watts on birthsheet Custom carbon fiber sub box EVERYTHING else is stock, for now 149.4 @ 37hz, Termlab, dash, open window on two AQ3 18s all stock electrical, wired to .25 ohm on a RF T2500 148.8 @ 36hz, Termlab, dash, open window on one AQ3 18 all stock electrical, wired to .5 ohm on a RF T2500 147.8 @ 38hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on two RE SX 18s 146.4 @ 36hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on one RE SX 18 Link to my hack-built, stupid, carbon fiber wasting project.... http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/149946-carbon-fiber-box-update-1494db-37hz-on-tl/ http://gifsoup.com/NDM3MTc1MQ
JasonJones Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Pardon my ignorance, however, did you set your gains by DMM/DD-1/Scope? Because last I checked if you did, and had the gain knob all the way up when you tuned, then at 0 on the knob you should have no output right? So if you're getting output with bass knob at 0 then you tuned with it at 0 and essentially eliminate the use of the knob. Unless you want to then turn it up passed your tuned output and clip the shit out if everything... Also, why build a box for dual 18"s just to rip one out for a comp and that sub not give its optimal performance? Not trying to hate, just trying to understand. I like the carbon fiber though. Looks good!

Looks good! Gain was set with a DD-1. The knob on the dash is a Rockford Fosgate Punch PEQ remote bass "boost" knob, not the gain control. The gain was set with the knob at the 12 'o clock position, which is where I normally listen to heavy bass rap songs at full volume. Turning it down all the way does not turn the bass off or lessen the amp gain setting. The difference between full on and full of on the bass knob is supposedly +/- 18db at 45hz as per Rockford Fosgate. So, even if I set my gain with it all the way up, turning it all the way down would not turn the bass completely off, it would only turn the boosted bass volume down roughly 18db from the peak. As for your second question, just pulled one sub out to see what the box would do. Just playin around. Gonna go enter a 3x event where cone area limits me to one 18, then put the other sub back in when the event is over. I didn't build the box or my system to compete, I built it for daily listening. Pulling one sub out temporarily gives me the chance to compete in a class that is more in line with my system's capability at the moment. If/when I buy more amps and upgrade my electrical to handle it, I will compete in a class that allows two 18s. 2006 Cadillac Escalade 2/3 drop on 28" wheels Two RE SX 18" subs RF T2500-1bdCP amp, 3531watts on birthsheet Custom carbon fiber sub box EVERYTHING else is stock, for now 149.4 @ 37hz, Termlab, dash, open window on two AQ3 18s all stock electrical, wired to .25 ohm on a RF T2500 148.8 @ 36hz, Termlab, dash, open window on one AQ3 18 all stock electrical, wired to .5 ohm on a RF T2500 147.8 @ 38hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on two RE SX 18s 146.4 @ 36hz, Termlab, legal, sealed on one RE SX 18 Link to my hack-built, stupid, carbon fiber wasting project.... http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/149946-carbon-fiber-box-update-1494db-37hz-on-tl/ http://gifsoup.com/NDM3MTc1MQ
