Torres Posted January 16, 2008 Report Posted January 16, 2008 how do you get an access point to work? like...i have a wireless router/cable modem (both combined into one unit) from westell, and i get wireless internet down stairs, and the main computer has wired internet. all is well. my dad buys an access point from linksys from a yard sale for like 5 bucks, cuz his work laptop can access the internet, but not the intranet, i believe. but if he goes to a 'hotspot' like mcdonalds or a pit stop where they have an access point network, he can access his things he needs to do from work, but only in those places. but no connection at home. so how would i go about enabling that sort of system at home? i tried hooking an ethernet cable from the router/modem to the access point, and it was powered on and everything, and the orange 'link' button was lit, but the driver would not install. said the device could not be found. help plz? Torres Posted January 16, 2008 Author Report Posted January 16, 2008 also, my dad said he called cincinnati bell (the provider) and they said that there is some type of firewall blocking it. so maybe there's a way to disable that firewall so he can get the intranet on his laptop? Quote
