For some reason, I ran a windows install that was off the HDD, so when the restart came, couldn't continue. Now when it boots it says Missing operating system_. I have a windows 7 install .iso and burned it to a DVD, and even putting the DVD player in the first position for boot order, or going to the manual boot loader, and picking the DVD player. It always will come up saying Missing operating system_. Anyone got any information here or any way to help me out? Only thing I can think of to resolve this is a HDD format, or I was thinking of just getting a newer faster HDD because my performance has been shitty lately. I did run a HDD test and it passed, I was coming to think that my decrease in performance over the past while and this happening could be the conclusion of my hard drive dying. But the tests passed so I don't know. Jessica Posted October 16, 2012 Report Share Posted October 16, 2012 I am pretty sure that if you have an o/s that is in process of an install an option will appear that says "press any key to boot from cd" . So even if you have your bios set to boot from cd, windows will try to load from the cd, look at the hard drive and then default to it. It goes by quick though. So maybe watch for that. Jessica Posted October 16, 2012 Report Share Posted October 16, 2012 When the windows dvd loads, it looks at the hard drive and sees either a: a failed install or b: a install that is in process.. When it sees that it may try to load from the hard drive instead so it doesnt get stuck in a loop. Was this the first time it rebooted during the install? And the install only restarted once, the only time it's upposed to, and on the boot up started saying that. If you just burn the iso to a cd or dvd it wont boot from it. Only programs i know that can make a cd or dvd bootable is magic iso/cd and well, i forgot the name of the other one. Along with that, in the .nfo file it says it is bootable and how to use it, which is the way you burn a ISO to a DVD, but my laptop still does it.
