Your front should already be setup for torque applied to both wheels evenly. It's when you change gears in one pumpkin that you have to change them in the other, otherwise: Asplosions!

The only exception to the "same ratio" is if you run different sized tires (Large in back, small in front). The "Chevy Quagmire" truck is a notable example of this. Rear ratio is 5.86 with 48" Firestone Floatation tires, while the front ratio is 4.56 with 40" Super Swamper TSL Boggers.
