boxyhobo
I am trying to jam a DC Level 4 18" sub with the TFS cone into my 2001 Volvo S60. I gotta have it facing up and I am gonna be putting about 1000 watts rms into it. The recommended ported box size is 6 ft^3 and my trunk can fit about 32"x24"x13". I am wondering if I should drop some box size and go slot port or try to put aero ports in and if so how many and how big. This is my first build and got the sub basically for free so thats why I am trying to jam it in. Thanks for any help in advance!
boxyhobo
I am trying to use the box calculators but it gets confusing with aero ports
CleanSierra
Don't put the sub in the trunk unless its to transport the sub from place to place. Facing it at the deck lid will be a MOST disagreeable choice. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
CleanSierra
Btw, your dimensions you gave only equal about 4.5 cubic feet. That's BEFORE displacement of the sub, bracing, or port. You don't have enough room, sorry Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
sbg
i had a buick regal GS with a ppi 18 on 1400 RMS with sub up to lid and it was awasome! sound was real good. 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines. CleanSierra
^^^Still wouldn't suggest for someone to do it. It's not the conditions in which I would subject a subwoofer or enclosure. 4.5 cubes BEFORE displacements isn't enough. He doesn't have a Buick with a monster trunk. How many cubes was the box for that PPI? Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
boxyhobo
Thats awesome. When I calculate it I get 5.7 ft^3 by multiplying the dimensions then dividing by 1728. Also, I could do 31x27x13.5. SBG, what size is that aero port edit: If I used the measurements above doesnt that give me about 6.5 ft^
CleanSierra
You're looking at external dimensions sir! You REALLY only have 30.5" by 22.5" by 11.5" internally. You have to figure the would in dude. 3/4 inch on all sides decreases your overall by 1.5" per useable external dimension. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. CleanSierra
Whenever you are under sizing an enclosure it's recommended to run a BUNCH of power to compensate, especially on that sub. It's gonna laugh at 1000W. If you sent it 2000-2500, them that's a different story. The point is: a)you don't have the airspace the sub requires and b)you really should fire a sub like that RIGHT at the deck lid. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you. How many cubes was the box for that PPI? my trunk in this car was no monster lol this is a 2 dr car. the box was way to small for this sub... it was just a prefab 15 box i turned into the box in the pic. but i still hit a 145.6 on music . 01 focus se 110 amp alt Big 3 sky high and stinger hpm ofc 1/0 Super start platinum AGM (starting) 2 runs of 1/0 Execution audio front to back Kenwood double DIN DDx271 A pillars- orion 4" super tweeter and 2-1" alpines.
