Do not waste your money on a hand held programmer!!!

I don't think I can be any more clear than that, whoever is telling you that you will need it later to have it tuned by a professional is an idiot. Contact a reputable tuner (ie Nelson's Performance or Black Bear) they will tell you the same thing. Also most tuners will do re-tunes for free or a reduced cost if you already have their product in your truck so it would be ok to get it done now and then get the other mods later and have them check/update the tune. Make sure you ask them about re-tunes prior to paying for their service because not every shop does it for free so shop it around a bit and research tuners prior to picking one.
