i started my truck today after sitting all night and now all of a sudden my voltage with no music on goes up and down, when i accelerate it dooes the same thing my gauge moves up and down and the lights kinda dim out as the voltage moves, i have just the stock alternator in there which is 95a and im running a hifonics brz 1700d and a kicker zx350.4 i have a 230a alternator just havent put it in yet. also i have done the big 3 upgrade, and if i need to change out the alternator do i need to upgrade any other wires or am i good to just plug it in, my vehicle is a 1991 ford explorer 4x4 4.0L automatic. please help would like to fix tonight

make sure all connections are tight.

if you have the new alt already, just put it in. only thing you need to do with it is the big 3 in 0 gauge.

okay, thanks ill check connections first, i dont want to change it tonight because its already dark. also my big 3 is 0 gauge and can i ground to my alternator braced that mounts to the block? i have it to the factory ground and i was told thats not good to have 2 grounds there.

its perfectly fine if you put the ground on one of the holes that the alt mounts onto. its preferred last i checked.

okay i took the old alternator out and put the new one in and it does the same thing at idle but at 1500 rpm is goes away. is it maybe my battery or would it be the lack of amps running things?

i put my 230 amp alternator in on monday and last night (friday) i got in my truck and it did the same thing and my amps turn off when it does this, well my 4 channel cuts out. i found a video on youtube that is kinda the same problem im having but mines constant

all my connections are tight could it be that the ground on my block is no good? because its the factory ground it has like a 8 gauge wire so i justed added a 0 gauge to it and my alternator has a threaded hole in the top i want to ground to that but want to see if anyone can help me out first before i rip apart my truck

I'm not familiar with ford charging systems but you seem to be getting voltage spikes. Is your voltage regulator built into the alt or external?
