kicker comp cvr box opinions.

hey guys, i just helped a friend out working on his system and it's the first time i've actually seen his system.

honestly nothing too impressive. he just has a kicker comp cvr 12 running at 500rms from an alpine amp and then some stuff for the mids and highs, but my question is about the sub.

my question is this: the comp cvr comes loaded in a box that's ported and i felt inside and it has dampening material. its a box made by kicker for the sub and so im just wondering if with the dampaneing in there if the appearant box size would be perfect for the sub.

also, if the box from kicker is a good fit for the sub, would if be worth it at all to build a custom box for it?

thanks guys!

sonicelectronix does a video about factory boxes vs sub-specific boxes, and yes, it is poly-fill they have on the sides of the box.

i would leave it in that box for less hassle, but they did have about 2 db gain in a custom box they made for it.

alright that's exactly what i was wondering then.

i'll just leave it then. he's really happy with his system (i wouldn't be haha) and i honestly don't have the time to build a box for him.

i just hope i can show him some hard hitting bass, compaired to his, when i get my box done.

thank's for your help guys!

I currently have the duel CVR 12 preloaded enclosure on an Alpine 1000. While for what it is, it doesn't do horrible but I personally would build a new box for it simply because Kicker tunes their preloaded enclosures to around 39hz. While for the average Best Buy car audio purchaser that is fine I am thinking of building either a slightly larger (4 ft3 vs. their just under 3 ft3) and dropping the tuning down to around 33hz. I think this would make a massive difference in the sound of the CVR's. This is my daily driver with all stock electrical and no big 3. My truck I'm saving for some Sundown either X's or Zv.4's depending on how much I want to spend for power. Just my $.02. :-)

basically what the polyfil does is it slows the sound waves in the enclosure down. I tricks the sub into thinking it is in a slightly larger box.

Didn't know subs were capable of conscious thought.
