I am planning a box build for 2 JL 12w6v2's.. strictly burps... never built this style of box... are they typically larger than recomended? and how many sqin's of port per cube is the norm? basically any tips before i cut up some expensive material for negatove results...

Scion xb 1st gen... currently with a 1.18 cuft per sub ported at 45 hz it hit a 148.3 @ 58hz... so that tells me resonant is around 57-58 hz... and the box was undersized... that was also sub back port back... but have heard that sub up port up meters better...

First of all... If you plan to do just strickly burps.. Get the right sub

And yes.. You may ne peaking at 58hz now.. But thats more then likly where your BOX is peaking

For my class these subs are great... when you need efficiency buy an efficient sub... and its been proven more than once that first gen xb's peak 56-58hz...

the bigger the box does not mean more bass I would do a 1.8 cu.ft. box tuned closer to your burp peak. I would tune the box to 57 if your peaking at 58 hz the reason why i say start at 1.8 cu.ft is you can put something solid in the box to displace air space basically test and trail to find out whats loudest, also you can try more square in for your port opening. when i build a strickly burp box i build a changable port, also speaker and port placement in the vehicle can make a big differenace i've gained 2db by leaning my box in my vechical before same power same Hz

Yeah mine is leaned right now... just didnt onow if there was a rule of thumb on port size and volume for this style box... jl recomends 1.5 per sub... guess i will start there maybe 25 sqin port per cube... Just checking people thoughts on this style of box...
