voltage fluctuations

Hi i recently installed a stinger volt meter and i have noticed that sometimes when im driving with the music off the volts stay around 14.2

other times with the same circumstances the volts stay around 13.6

big three has been done in 4 gauge

i have a standard under the hood and a yellow optima in the trunk (100amp alternator)

im wondering if this random difference mean somethings wrong?

i did a 4 gauge ground off the standard battery negative to the chassis

this is the only thing i can think that could maybe do something i dont want

or maybe 4 gauge wire isnt big enough (only pushing 1000 rms tho)

also, when the music is playing how low is too low when it comes to volts?

check for a loose connection and make sure the grounds are cleaned

it could be the stinger volt meter bc those tend to act up alot!

Output voltage on an alternator changes with temperature... usually put out more when cold...

you are most li,kely experiencig a hotter temperature when you see your voltage lower. when wires and alternators heat up resistence is higher so you will see a greater voltage drop. as far as how low is too low for votage. try to stay above 12. above your batterys resting voltage is better.
