Need some Engineering help- Designing a gearbox

Recommended Posts

So for my senior capstone project, a few of my classmates are designing a forward-neutral-reverse gearbox to be used in our college's mini baja vehicle. Im stumped at this point trying to find a part that we saw on another team's gearbox, so I decided why not ask the people of SMD.

So This is the gearbox we designed

What we need is the little white accordion boot thing that you can see at the top of the next picture (another team's car). Its gonna be used to relieve any pressure/vacuum built up from heat.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks y'all

Are you trying to design it? Or just trying to find the actual part? If you're just trying to find the part, I believe Trail Gear makes one that they use in place of an axle breather tube. That way pressure can still escape, but no water or other nasty stuff can get into your differential.

YESSSS!!!! Thats exactly what we were looking for....And to answer your question, we were just looking for the part. I appreciate it very much. We're just finishing up the design of the whole unit before we send out material and drawings to get machined. Been a good bit of work and it sucked getting held up with something so little.
