Plexiglass/Lexan question

I may put a plexi window in my new enclosure, The window will be 30w x 8.5H x 1/2" thick supported by 1/2"(maybe 3/4"?) @ 1/4"thick all around the edge.

Basically flush fit into a 3/4" thick piece of mdf.

I will probably use tee nuts to bolts to secure it.

I am just concerned about the large surface area and if it will have enough strength. So, I just want some suggestions here. We are talking $90 worth of lexan wasted if it doesn't work or $50 worth of plexi.

Te subs are sa-12's and it is a ported box, so i don't know if there will actually be that much pressure in there.

Do i need to make it two windows or would i be alright?

Depends on if it's lexan or plexiglass... Lexan is 10 times stronger. I did a Window with 1" thick of lexan with a 20" x 13.5" Window before and still got mad flex with a single 15" 6k daily... This your height isn't as much so it may be okay, but maybe think of extra bracing down the middle of the windows. flush with your mounting trim.. Maybe even 2 braces

yeah but dont cut it around the edges at a 1/4 leave the glass 3/4

I wont be cutting the lexan down, let me post a pic of what i mean. I could do two windows but, i think asthecicaly (sp) one window would be better.

be right back with the pic.

not sure how i would incorporate 1" thick plexi into my design. Space is a premium and i pushing it as it is. Maybe i need to rethink this lol.

All my point is...

I doubt 3/4 would have any flex either!

Just read again.... with a small window I think you might be able to get away with a 1/2" thick window

alright, well I will give this some more thought, but read my original post again, it will be 1/2" thick plexi or lexan. Most likely lexan.

edit,

well, i added a divider, it doesnt look all that bad really. Plus it's a bit more piece of mind.
