blake1886
I have some older tower speakers but they are blown out and I am trying to replace them. I have a problem with finding new subs though. The old lines in the tower speakers are 5 ohm subs. I can't seem to find any 5 ohm subs. I'm not looking for very expensive subs but I just want some cheap subs to replace them. Can anyone help me find some 5 ohms subs? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -2004 Ford explorer -Pioneer Deh-80prs HU -4 Rockford Fosgate R1683 -2 Rockford Fosgate P1S4-12 wired to 2ohms -1 Rockford Fosgate Prime R500-1 -I know it's very basic... blake1886
Does anyone at least have a clue where to buy a 5 ohm speaker? Could I just buy a 4 ohm sub and add a 1ohm resistor to it to make it 5 ohms? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -2004 Ford explorer -Pioneer Deh-80prs HU -4 Rockford Fosgate R1683 -2 Rockford Fosgate P1S4-12 wired to 2ohms -1 Rockford Fosgate Prime R500-1 -I know it's very basic... Bump4life
you could probably get away with a 4 ohm speaker. it will change the filter frequency of the crossover and total impedence of the system but it should work fine and your options are virtually unlimited. Bump4life
By changing the crossover frequency what do you mean? the crossovers inside your cabnetss are made and designed with a 5ohm woofer. changing that impedence will change the frequency at which the corssover will filter. as a general rule if you have a crossover for x speaker. if it is a low pass, since it is for a sub, by lowering impedence of the speaker, you will lower your filter frequency. so instead of it being crossed over at 100hz it could be closer to 80hz or lower. also if there are other components of the crossover such as a LPAD or zobel circuit those could also be effected. Guest
replace components on the crossover board. i wouldn't recommend it if you have no idea what you're doing.
