Wiseracing2 Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 I have a Rockford Fosgate T1 12 wired at 1 ohm on a Rockford 750.1 with a birthsheet showing 910 RMS. The sub is 800RMS, and my gain is set at half way, the bass boost is at half way, and the bass knob is at or close to half way, my deck is usually set at 0-4 for the sub, the freq. is around 80-100ish and the subsonic is at 35-40ish... the problem is, the subwoofer after being played for a few minutes will all of a sudden start to put out a horrible burning smell, the box is 1.95 Cu ft and the port is a precision port with flared ends with a 4 diameter and 9 inchs long, straight off of rockford specs for this sub... what could be the horrible smell? Anything helps! SnowDrifter Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 You are clipping, that smell is burning coil. Turn your bass boost all the way down and find someone near you with a dd-1 or oscilloscope Where you located? ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444

Wiseracing2 Posted November 23, 2012 Author Report Posted November 23, 2012 You are clipping, that smell is burning coil. Turn your bass boost all the way down and find someone near you with a dd-1 or oscilloscope Where you located? I'm located in east texas, but I have access to the dallas/fort worth area easily since I recently moved from there! I turned the boost all the way down, put the gain at 8 out of 11, set the subsonic at 35 ish, will it be okay to put the deck to 6-7 out of 10 and how much can I turn up the bass knob and still be safe? Thanks a lot! I'm still trying to figure out about clipping and such... guess i found out the hard way -1994 Dodge Dakota -Lifted -Murdered out -Pro comp beadlock rims and General Grabber At2 tires -Rockford T1D212 -Rockford 750.1 at 910w RMS -Focal Solid 4 at 75x4 -Rockford T1 6.5 up front -Rockford Punch 5x7 in rear -Sony BT38U headunit with bluetooth, etc -Rockford 4 Gauge -Singer 250 amp alt! -Race accessory HIDS _______________________________________________ -Soon to come- D3400 Kicker 2500.1 Fi BL 12[/font]

SnowDrifter Posted November 23, 2012 Report Posted November 23, 2012 never "guess" on gain levels. Just going to quote it because I think it's worth repeating. I've seen setups that distort at just less than an 8th of a turn, and others that are clean with the gain all the way up. Hence why guessing on the gain is largely irrelevant since the proper setting could be anywhere ~~~~~~~~SAY NO TO PHOTOBUCKET~~~~~~~~ Snow's DD-1 tracks here: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/167433-snows-dd-1-tracks/ My take on OFC vs CCA: https://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/110381-things-that-piss-you-off-in-the-car-audio-world/?do=findComment&comment=2461444
