I got a question about hooking up some amp but haven't really found a clear answer online in my searching, so I figured this was the place to go. As of now I have a Kenwood HU with one set of Rear/Sub RCA outputs on it powering a Kenwood 2 channel amp for my sub. Its a cheap system, but it works for me. I have been running some cheap speakers that I threw in it a year and a half ago. I got them because all of the old ones were blown when my Dad gave me the truck. Needless to say, they are basically dead. I have been looking into component speakers for my truck for some time now as the general consensus is that they are much better than coaxial speakers. Till this Monday, I have the chance to get two sets of Infinity Reference X component systems for the price of one, so I figured I would go with those. However, I don't have an amp for them, and It seems like running them off the HU is not the best. I figured I would buy a 4 channel amp as well to power them. My problem is hooking the amp up. Is there a way to hook up one 2 channel Amp and one 4 channel amp to my HU? Thanks in advance guy.
ROLEXrifleman Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 A majority of 4 channel amps will allow all 4 channels to run with the use of one set of inputs. the odds are in your favor that the amp you pick will do thsi as well. The only loss you will have in going this route is the lack of front to rear fader. Rolex you sicken me. Just let me finish my pie ~ Juice
Evan_P Posted November 25, 2012 Author Report Posted November 25, 2012 The loss of a front to rear fader is ok with me. As of right now my stereo is set to balance front to rear and left to right. So would all I have to do is run a set of y-splitters off the RCA's at my Amp that I already have and run them to the new amp? And does it matter that the outputs on my HU are for Rear/Sub?
ROLEXrifleman Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 the fact that your RCA outputs on your head unit are marked rear out have no bearing on anything. It may mean though that if you use teh HU fader and put it fully forward you will lose your output from them. That's an easy fix, just keep your fader centered. As far as teh amps and RCA cables go.... The 4 channel you buy may have a pass through output. If that is teh case run the HU RCA to the 4 channel first and your 2nd set of RCAs from teh 4 channel to your two channel. it's having built in y adapters in teh amp. Otherwise simply split teh signal with a y connector and run as you described. Rolex you sicken me. Just let me finish my pie ~ Juice
