$600 console killer/media pc (pre-build)

Recommended Posts

Alright so the goal is to build a media center/ gaming computer for under $600. I would like to play my games and movies at 1080p on my tv. I have not ordered anything yet as I am still getting the funds together but I should have everything within the next month or so. I have never built a gaming computer and would like some advice/ input from you guys. I have done research on everything I intend to buy, but like I said I have never built a computer.

So far this is what I plan to order:

Motherboard/ CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1102163 Asrock FM2A75 Pro4-m and Amd A8 5600k

Memory: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820231550 G. Skill Aries Series 2x4gb 1866

Hard drive: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16822148767 Seagate barracuda ST500DM002 500gb Sata 6gbps

Video card: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814130840 EVGA GTX 650 ti 2gb

PSU: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16817139026 Corsair Builder Series Cx 430 watt

Case: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16811815014 Xigmatek ASGARD PRO USB 3.0

Fans: http://www.newegg.co...N82E16835103090 COOLER MASTER SickleFlow 120mm Green LED case fan

I am also going to order a wireless keyboard and a headset. I am getting a copy of windows 7 from a friend of mine for the OS. This rig should allow me to play most games at 1080p at 30-40 fps minimum. I am not dead set on the products so if you guys know of a better product please let me know. Advice is welcome

im jealous of how cheap the GTX 650Tis are now... when i was looking a few months ago they were still 330

Yea Ive been looking at these for awhile. Definitely a good price, especially compared to the amd counterpart

everything looks good but i would get a 750 psu or higher

750 watts? Wouldnt that be a little much for what I need it for?

well lets see that was the standard watts in a regular p3 for gaming and today most good gaming rigs are using 1600 and the standard case comes with a 400 for 40 buck s so and those usually fry out from being over driven i would say get a 750

Would a 500-600 watt work? I don't think I can fit a good 750 watt psu into the budget as $600 is about the most I can spend. I really dont plan to upgrade this rig.

@OP: Not bad.

The reason why the PSUs that come with cases fry is because they are cheap junk that are usually overrated, and some blow before they even hit 60-70% of their rated load. Think of it like one of those cheap junk amplifiers that everybody hates on here. A similar rule of thumb applies to computer PSUs as well.

Also where in the hell did you get 1600 from? That would be somewhat true if he was going to run something like 4 GTX 690s, but even just a 750W PSU is way overkill for those specs. I would say upwards of a 550W or 650W PSU would be fine while still giving a little extra headroom for future upgrades, if desired.

Edit: ninja'd with the "no desire to upgrade" but I included it anyway

im not saying it wont work im saying it will last longer if u are overdueing the psu it will pop eventually usually when they are way underrated around a year depending on the maker if cheap sooner than later the 450 will work but if you want it to last longer the 750 would be the wise choice
