Birdgang502 Posted December 20, 2012 Author Report Posted December 20, 2012 Just purchased two alpine type r 12s DVC4 ported box, separate chambers @ 1.35 volume powered by hifonics 1800@1ohm, wired at 1 ohm but actual reading on DMM says 1.5 ohms coming from wires out of box, Sony head unit.... Ok so my problem is system is not loud enough without subs getting way too hot! I had set gain with DMM to 42.24 I believe which is what I came up with calculating at 1800 @ 1 ohm but when I played system it was not loud at all so I ended up turning up settings and of course it was as loud as I would expect two type rs to be but noticed subs were getting hot and noticed burnt voice coil smell so turned off quickly and check voice coils which all are fine as of now... Should I get bigger amp or better receiver?? Why can I not get the sound I know these speakers are capable of
