I'm not even sure if this is the right place to post, but it looked like a close match. Anyways for Christmas one of my neighbors got me a used bike. I checked it out when I got it, everything seemed to work well. The next day I head off to work and notice that when i tried to coast the bike would slow down way too fast. Pedaling on a flat surface seemed to take a bit of effort. So last night I checked the brakes and did some adjusting. Today same problem. Checked the brakes again today, they aren't rubbing. What am I missing? It's an 18 speed mountain bike with a dual suspension.

Yeah it's a cheap ass Huffy, but it was a free bike...no complaints

I did notice in the second pic that the one brake pad is kind of crooked, doesn't appear to be rubbing though.

is tire pressure good and doesn't sag at all when you sit on it?

there is only so many things that can cause it.

bearings:

front and rear hubs and

bottom bracket (where the crank arms attach to, where you peddal if your confused)

brakes:

tilted and rubbing or

tires are not alligned well and rubbing against frame

tires:

low pressure or

tread too wide and rubbing agains frame (usually on retardedly big DH tires)

if you cant find it. then take off the tires and hold the axle and spin them. you should easily be able to tell if they're shot from that. also check the bottom bracket whiile the chain is off.

if ya need more help just let me know

edit: if everything is good then you're just out of shape ;)

tires are good and don't sag when I sit on it, hubs should be fine, it's a new bike only ridden a few times before I got it. Tires on it aren't too big 26x1.75. Guess I'll take another look at it.

another posibility, im not sure if your used to riding a good bike or not. but no offence, it's a target special bike. i wouldn't expect it to coast for miles on one pedal.

maybe you're just not use to how energy it takes to keep one of these guys going?

also i'd go find some WD40
