Either the C clip came off the shaft or the shaft is broken or the cap came unscrewed or stripped out. Can't tell without a closer up pix of the shock with you holding the bike up in the air a little. Is there any name on the shock?

Yeah the nut or C clip came off of the end of the piston shaft. Does the lower part of the shock ( the part that is on the back tire side ) have a removable cap on it at the top where the shaft comes out of it?

I was afraid of that. Usually on the lower quality suspension products they make the shocks so they can't be rebuilt or even taken apart. Wish I had better news for ya but you're gonna need a new shock. Take it off and take some measurements of it and shop around on eBay for a used one. Probably pick 1 up for like 10 bucks.
