Help Narrowing Down A Report Topic Related To Car Audio? 7 Pg Report Due In 2 Months?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm trying to come up with a good research topic for my formal report which is due a few months from now and will need to be at least 7 pages long.

This is a technical writing class so I'm assuming I'll be allowed to use some pictures and bullets, so 7 pages won't be hard. I guess.

Anyways, I need help choosing my research topic + research questions

Can you help me choose a topic?

Some topics examples are: upgrading a computer system, purchasing a color printer, digital camera or DVD player, refinancing a house, investigating investment opportunities, and choosing an ISP.

Ok Ok.

I know you're about to reply with a message say "go away and do your own homework and research".

Before you do that, hear me out. The reason why I am posting here is because after I looked at the example topics given, it gave me an idea of choosing my topic to be related to car audio.

I'm planning on doing research on how to do my next 2,300$ build, so why not use some of the stuff I'm learning in a research project right?

So, as for my research topic, I guess it's "Car Audio?" It's probably too vague and I might need you guys help narrowing it down.

As far as "Research questions" go (questions I will be researching and including in my report), here's a list of what I'm thinking about doing:

What are the steps one must take before buying a sub-woofer?

- Setting a limit

- Knowing what else that will be needed (amp, wiring and etc).

- How to research online for products

- The things one must be wary about when going to best buy / circuit city

Well, that's just an idea I had. I don't know if it's going to be capable of having 7 pages or not.

Should I make a more vague "topic" and do like "The steps in setting up the perfect audio system for your car" and then cover topics listed above and also how to install things also?

Should I cover fundamentals of electric circuits in the report?

Note: I'm still working on my Electrical Engineering major. I've taken all my calculus and math classes required. I have knowledge on ideal laws of circuits and such.

However, I have no experience in hooking up my own system. I plan on doing A LOT of reading on what to buy and how to hook things up. I know I won't be able to use all of the things I'll be finding for my report, but hopefully with your guys help, I'll know exactly that is usable.

By the way, I was going to take the easy way out and do the topic "how to choose an ISP provider", but I much rather write on something I truly want to do research on.

Yep. SMD community seems like a smart community. So this will be the 3rd and final forum I'll make this post at :)

God bless you SMD.

-getting the correct size wire for the amp

-upgrading the alt.

-upgrading the big 3

-adding extra batteries

-getting the wire configuration of the subs to match the amp (making sure the amp isnt going below the rated ohm level)

-covering the box or painting it with fleckstone.

Could you use something like that.

I hope I pull this off. I have a feeling I'll end up finding too much information because my topic is too vague, or I won't find enough information because my topic is too "simple"

I would include parts about the industry as a whole. Why there is a need for after market equipment. I would also cover the sport of it I.E. DB drag or IASCA and it's history, benefits to the industry. Like how competition type equipment trickles down to everyday product. I would cover how the after market side has forced the OEM to look at things like backup cameras/ sensors.,GPS, backseat tv. Maybe cover a little on how big a market it is

Designing, building, and shipping boxes. Yahoo IM - kingsuv00If the listening level is too loud, please inform the driver, so he can promptly pull over, and let you out.

not many cars can get me to pluggin my ears but this one.......damn. I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it. :)
