oTurtlez Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 So my friend and I swapped amps and once we got everything hooked up, we checked for power and all lights were green. Decided to go for a ride to adjust gains and as my friend turned his gain up (remote bass knob) there was a pop and then no bass. Checked all fuses and none were blown. The amp's fuses were good and the power wire's fuse was good. Moved the amp back to my car and it powered up fine. Went back to his car, yanked everything out, redid the ground and sanded to bare metal, and then once we flipped the switch, the LED came on and then went off after 4 seconds or so. Any ideas? I'm at a loss.
CleanSierra Posted January 20, 2013 Report Posted January 20, 2013 So the power light was on then turned off? Sounds like the remote wire has a problem. The remote wire is what powers the amp up. It might be grounded out somewhere as some insulation could be worn or rubbed through. Redo the remote turn on lead and see if that fixes it dude. Im not the one you want to try to troll. Just a fyi for you.
Carbon Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 yeah that^ for a quick test to see if that was the problem, take a 4" piece of wire and bridge the rem with the positive input.
RMac18 Posted January 21, 2013 Report Posted January 21, 2013 I ran a remote wire under my seats in a previous install and when I put the carpet and seats back in the little washer which grabs into the carpet around the seat bolt went through the jacket on the remote wire. I ended up with a similar issue where the amp would power on but then ground out the remote wire and turn back off. Easy fix. You can actually jump the remote wire off the amps power wire to see if it stays on and that will narrow it down to the remote wire or connection to the headunit or relay if your using one.
oTurtlez Posted January 21, 2013 Author Report Posted January 21, 2013 Turned out to be the 12v. Replaced it with some extra I had lying around and it fixed it... until we blew a fuse... Gotta wait till tuesday to go pick up some more.
Guest Posted January 27, 2013 Report Posted January 27, 2013 do you not see in the post literally right above yours, that he fixed it last week?
