Trunk/hatch Corner Box: 1/2 Fiber Glass/mdf.

Not much clearence here....

I originally intended to make the bottom piece mdf and just glass the walls/upper section to it....but the owner had to get going and leave the box with me so I could keep glassing it....hence the glassed bottom section. I only did this so it'd have enough rigidity (sp?) that I could pull it w/out warping/cracking....so here comes the mdf I had already made the cardboard template for n whatnot.

Posted Image

But that part of the trunk slopes up/aint flat so there's this lil gap....

Posted Image

Posted Image

So I just made a lil relief cut/slice through it so the back end would sit lower and the front could follow the slope up.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Test fit again..

And the face in mdf checkin clearences

That is awesome, the face of the enclosure is amazing. Talk about someone who is a problem solver.

Yo LSN i got a question. Did you first apply ONLY resin and wait for it to cure? And then proceed with the matt?

Oh and did you use some kind of release wax?

I paint the area with JUST RESIN, and let it cure.

Then I paint it w/ resin and start laying woven mat, and tapping the bubbles out WHILE I lay more resin on top for a nice resin-mat-resin sandwich.

Then once thats built up a bit, I start with the chop mat/seperated chopmat to build strength (thnks GP2K2)

No I don't use any release agent....it's tape...THAT and I'm Super BUFF!

as long as the piece ur pullin out is sturdy enough to pull, just start at the edges and work your way around it until its free'd all the way around and then you should be able to give 'er the 'ol Heave Ho.

:P

looks good bro... getting shit done... so you gonna be around on saturday???? or gonna have meet up a different day???

Justin

Which saturday?

I'm currently "scheduled: off work" for AR 9th/10th but If it's pouring I might go in and relieve the guy coverin for me so he doesn't have to pull an all day/open/close shift if not needed.

If you mean sat as in day after tomorrow, just bang on this project all morning until 330 when I go to "my real job".

Anyhoo more pix:

So the next order of bizzness is this lil bish right here (Trunk lid support/arm)

Posted Image

(I hate this lil guy)

It's in the way of where the box needs to be so I'm making this lil "nook" in the top of the box for the arm so swing/pass through as the trunk lid lifts and falls.

I traced the "arc" it makes roughly on the backside of the front baffle to get an idea where the magnet on the G5 sub needs to be to clear it-it's a lot tighter squeeze than it looks...but I'm all over it.

Posted Image

This is my frustrated face.

Posted Image

So I started making the lil "nook" that will be glassed into the top of the box and allow the free movement of the trunk lid support. Just bent up cardboard and tape so far...

Lil relief cuts in the tape.

(In case it looks like I'm being a "post hungry dooche" and making a bunch of seperate additions to this thread I'm not Really trying to...)

1: Pic limit sucks

2:Firefox users Bitch and whine about too many pix

3:Photobucket is taking forever to upload em

That's all.

Moving on...

Filthy work area

Posted Image

The resin was gettin to my brain parts...."yea a shot of our keys is a good pic to take...derrrr"

Posted Image

Back outside for some fresh air and a nose full of sawdust, yummy.

Rockin the home-made router table in the dark..wooo-haaaa!

Posted Image

I had to make this here "gap" bigger once I came up with the "cardboard arc" so it'll sit in the right spot.

Posted Image

Posted Image

The board the "arc" is bisecting is a cross sectional brace that will be cut "open-air" in the middle so the sub and radiator share air-just havnt chopped the middle out of it yet.

Posted Image

Posted Image

So this here cable+loom needs to get tucked in so it'll fit in the "arc"

Posted Image

Ta-da! Zip ties FTW. (No you can't see the white zip ties unless you climb in the trunk.)

Liiike a Glove!
