bassfreake Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 So i just read this page that explained subwoofer db ratings as: 1w @ 1m = sensitivity of sub Each double of power after that = 3db Each double of cone area = 3db Proper box = 3db 3500 But by doing the math there if that's right then that would make for instance a, pair of HDC312s on a Q1-3500 top out if you're getting all the power from the amp possible in a perfect box and everything at about 127 ish db... And idk for sure cuz i never got it rested but I'm pretty sure when my audio pipe stuff where i was running 1800w rated was actually working I'm pretty sure even that coulda topped 130db or so... Thanks I was pretty excited about the alt myself. kind of like a school girl, in a dress, on a swing. lol It's warming up enough that the donut-punching cyclist douchenozzles are getting their two wheeled fagmobiles out. Guest Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 acoustics work different than math. there is cabin gain, and a bunch of other factors.
purplesyrup Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 yea you honestly cannot ever rely on the +3db rule, it works for 1w 1m, but after that shit gets weird
bassfreake Posted February 6, 2013 Author Report Posted February 6, 2013 Ah ok thanks for the clarification... Any good ideas on what a pair of hdc312s on the 3500 could actually do? Just curious... Guest Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 Low 140s you would have to be doing something really wrong to only get low 40's with almost 4k lol. i did a 41.9 on 1200w (not clamped) with the box facing in the wrong direction, with the rear seats up.
99blazer Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 depends on the box and vehicle 08 Ford F150
purplesyrup Posted February 6, 2013 Report Posted February 6, 2013 2 HDC3 12"s with that power, proper box, wiring, electrical, and tuning should easily have you in the mid to upper 140's, if not pegging 150, easy, like kranny said, if you did low 140's off of that, something is horribly wrong, like horribly throw up vomit wrong, you spent all that money to do something that could have been done with much less.

All so wrong... Its a myth at best... Mostly rumors and all untrue statments. My Cadillac Seville STS with all stock speakers, stock headunit, stock everything, except a isimple kit too plug my Ipod into the radio inplace of the stock cd changer can meter a 125.6db from a single 12inch Bose woofer (if you want to call it that) that is placed in the rear deck with no sort of an enclosure. Its infinite baffle, and I think the stock amp pushes either 50watts or 100watts to it. And yes I did meter the stock system on a TermLab meter, following db drag sanctioned meter placement rules. So that just shows you that what you red on a site is wrong since a woofer without a box, that has 13mm of travel if its lucky is just as loud.
