Tips for upholstering?

I'm going to be making some glasses kick panels but I don't want to paint them. I think I'm going to upholster them with gray tweed or ultra leather. Any tips for doing this? Do I use foam under it? Spray glue then stretch the material to the contours? I basically want to make sure the material follows the contours nicely.

Also can I use the amp remote turn on lead to power LEDs behind the speaker grilles so they turn on when the stereo does? (It's a show truck)

The best and easiest way to wrap vinyl, leather is using a heat gun, spray adhesive, and patience. Coating the kicks and vinyl in spray adhesive first, waiting for the glue to tack up (5-10 min depending on weather), starting in the center and working your way to the edges. Lightly heating the vinyl while stretching over the contours helps the material soften so as to manuever the contours. Using the adhesive on the backside of the panels letting it tack up then wrapping the edges helps finish off the panels and insures the vinyl will stay adhered.

The same steps apply with tweed or any cloths but no need for a heat gun as the fabric will be pliable enough for the contours.

Thanks that definitely helps a lot. Mostly the part about letting the adhesive tack up. Any certain brand adhesives you would recommend?

I usually use a high strength industrial adhesive. It comes in a 5 gallon bucket. I spray it with a syphon fed paint gun. Usually hit up any automotive jobber or a Harbor Freight for the gun. The adhesive can usually be found at any upholstery trim wholesaler.
