mnrookie
So I was going to relocate my battery to the trunk in my monte carlo for better weight distribution (drag racing). But then it crossed my mind that if I were to do that then the max amps by starter will see will only be what the wire can carry (250 amps). Am I right? Wicks
The starter will pull what it needs, if your wire can't support that current them you'll get voltage drop. With your only battery in the trunk, you'll want your cable runs large. I have 0ga in mine and I still drop to 10v when starting since the starter pulls so much current. mnrookie
But if the wire can only handle 250 amps of current and you have say an 800 ca battery shouldnt your voltage not drop as much unless you had a bad ground?
Wicks
When first cranking, your starter motor coil acts like a dead short on the battery until the coil saturates. Not a whole lot you can do, the voltage is going to dip. Use a good 2ga or larger cable and you'll be fine. Correct, you'll want to be sure the ground connection is solid or that will cause more voltage drop.
